Best Ways to Prepare for an IVF Cycle

AshleyFleming

Once you have decided to give the gift of life through surrogacy, you’ll soon learn that a main requirement to qualify is to have had at least one child of your own. Some ways to prepare for an IVF cycle are the same or similar to planning a healthy pregnancy of your own. As with any goal or plan, preparation is key.

As a surrogate, the goal should be to provide the baby you carry with the best start possible. One of the best ways is by taking care of your health. Not only will it give baby the best chance of growing and developing normally – you will also feel better throughout your pregnancy.

Detox Your Body

Before applying to be a surrogate, stopping smoking. Surrogates are required to be non-smokers. Once you’ve met requirements and are qualified, limit alcohol and caffeine for at least a couple months before embryo transfer – if possible, as these hurt your fertility.

Maintain a Normal BMI

Being underweight or overweight can seriously affect your chances of a successful IVF Cycle. Surrogates are required to have a BMI between 18-30 to qualify.

Aim for a Healthy Diet

A diet that is low in fat and high in protein, iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium is important. Leafy greens, fruits and vegetables are ideal.

Foods that are considered especially good for boosting fertility are avocados, eggs, nuts, beans and foods high in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon as well as whole grains. Avoiding foods high in sugar, processed and hydrogenated foods is advised.

It is not recommended to start a diet of any kind, as restricting certain foods or minerals could have an adverse affect.

Take High-Quality Prenatal Vitamins

You can find prenatal supplements virtually anywhere these days. However, researching for and investing in one that’s high-quality will actually make quite a difference. At a minimum, you should be taking Folic Acid prior to and during your cycle.

Top Five Prenatal Vitamins

1. One a Day Women’s Prenatal 1 Multivitamin

2. Nature Made Prenatal + DHA 200mg Multivitamin

3. Mama Bird Prenatal Multivitamin

4. TheraNatal Complete Prenatal Vitamin & Mineral Supplement

5. Ritual Prenatal Vitamins

Try Relaxation Techniques

Relaxation techniques can benefit before, during and after an IVF Cycle. Meditation, mindfulness, even simple breathing exercises help to reduce stress and promote better sleep.

An IVF Cycle is very stressful. It’s physically demanding and can cause you to worry at times. While it’s easier said than done, keeping your stress at a minimum is imperative.

Commit to the IVF Process

Whether it’s your first round or tenth round, every cycle can take a toll on your mind and body. It is worth committing 100% to every round, as each very well could be the cycle that results that precious baby.

Follow Strict IVF Clinic Instructions

The IP’s fertility clinic will guide you each step of the way. They will provide strict instructions in regards to Do’s and Don’ts and medications with specific times and days. Failing to follow these instructions exactly can result in a failed cycle.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated has even more importance during IVF, as drinking liquids will keep fluid levels in the female reproductive organs at healthy levels. It can also help keep blood vessels hydrated to combat unwanted medication side effects, such as headaches.
