Lance Bass and Michael Turchin, who have been married since 2014, are expecting their two bundles of joy via surrogacy. After experiencing a tragic miscarriage in the fall of 2019, and having to part ways with their surrogate owing to the extraordinary conditions created by the pandemic, the former member of the iconic 90's pop act *NSYNC, and husband Turchin are finally expecting twins via a replacement gestational carrier.
“A weekend of baby shower love thrown by some of my favorite people,” Bass captioned on his Instagram for his 736k followers. “NOW it’s starting to feel real. A few weeks away!! 🙌🏼”
Expecting a baby boy and a baby girl, the 42-yr old former musician and TV host has been extremely open with his fans about the couple's difficult journey to parenthood. They suffered multiple failed surrogacy attempts, miscarriages and had their surrogate of over two years back out because of the pandemic, however, they did not lose hope in the process.
"We realized it's so common. We're trying not to get discouraged. The process has been so long."
The decision to have twins was a no-brainer for the excited parents-to-be as Turchin is a twin himself and absolutely adores his relationship with his twin sister.
"We always knew that if we were going to start the family, we wanted to go for twins just because Michael's a twin — he's a boy/girl twin. And he just loved that experience," said Bass. "I always wanted to have a twin, but we're like, 'Well, that's so perfect because now we can do one of mine, one of yours." he later explained.
The twins who are expected to arrive in early November have their dads-to-be over the moon already in anticipation. The couple sent out a teaser of the announcement in a not-so-subtle horror movie trailer posted on their TikTok, where they discover two mysterious buns in their oven.
"I need them to get here before Halloween, because I need them to be Halloween babies," Bass joked. "They have no choice but to love Halloween because I'm obsessed and they're going to be obsessed."
Keeping their challenging family-building journey in consideration, the couple hopes that the process of surrogacy and IVF becomes more affordable and hence, more attainable for everyone struggling with expanding or building their brood.
"Because especially with so many gay families, they end up spending so much of their money, all their savings, for that one try and if it doesn't work, it's like, 'well, what do we do now?' So hopefully it moves in that direction where it becomes attainable for everyone."
